I have a new Samsung TV and trying to connect it to my X1 box to use the smart remote

They received a RNG150N cable box with an XR2 remote. The XR2 remote paired easily with their TV and AVR. However, out of the box it will not communicate with the RNG150N cable box. I cannot power off, change channels, or send any commands to the box.
